Columbia Gas Transmission owns and operates natural gas pipelines in Pike County, PA and Orange County, NY. These facilities are part of Columbia’s 10-state, 12,000-mile pipeline network that for over 60 years continue to deliver part of the energy resources used by communities in Pennsylvania, New York and the eastern United States.

As part of Columbia’s commitment to continue to safely and reliably meet the energy needs of the region, Columbia will replace approximately 17-miles of its existing Line 1278 and Line K pipelines. Most of the project will done through what is commonly called a ‘lift and lay’ process, in which the existing 14-inch pipeline is removed and a new 20-inch pipeline is placed in the existing right-of-way. The new 20-inch pipeline is consistent with the rest of Columbia’s Line 1278 system in Northeast Pennsylvania. Columbia uses advanced internal inspection tools to physically inspect the condition of many of our pipelines from the inside out. The consistent pipeline diameter enables the tool to be used over a longer length of pipeline.

In March 2011, Columbia received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin construction.
