Growth Projects: Columbia Gulf Expansion Projects
Columbia Gulf continually evaluates organic as well as greenfield development opportunities in an effort to increase the volume of capacity reserved and transported on its system. Columbia Gulf’s strategy centers on efforts to increase the size and diversity of the supply and market options available to its customers. Currently, these efforts are focused on expanding deliveries to the rapidly growing markets in the Southeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, while continuing to increase supply from new and diverse basins, including LNG and the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent, North Texas (Barnett Shale), Northern Louisiana, Midwest and Rocky Mountain supply regions. Columbia Gulf is also actively pursuing opportunities to expand to serve markets off of its Mainline system and to develop storage.
As part of its growth focus, Columbia Gulf has completed or has the following expansion projects underway:
- Adair Expansion Project. Completed in October 2006, this project enables Columbia Gulf to deliver up to 200 MMcf/d to Texas Eastern Transmission in Adair County, Kentucky.
- Rayne Compressor Station Modifications. Columbia Gulf has completed piping modifications at its Rayne Compressor Station enabling the station to compress natural gas bi-directionally. The Rayne station retains its ability to compress volumes north to serve mainline markets in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, but now also possesses the ability to compress up to 1.0 Bcf per day south to link expanding supply at Delhi with growing markets in the Southeast via Columbia Gulf’s onshore lateral system.
- Shadyside Expansion Project. In August 2007, Columbia Gulf completed an 86 MMcf/d expansion of its existing Shadyside interconnection with Southern Natural Gas.
- Evangeline Expansion Project. Columbia gulf completed a 180 MMcf/d interconnection with Transcontinental Gas Pipeline in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana in 2007.
- Terrebonne Expansion Project. Columbia Gulf completed a 200 MMcf/d interconnection with Transcontinental Gas Pipeline in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana in 2007.
- FGT Expansion Project. A 180 MMcf/d compression expansion of the Florida Gas Transmission interconnect near Lafayette, Louisiana is underway and scheduled to be in-service by June 1, 2008.
- Centerville Expansion Project. Columbia Gulf conducted an open season on a proposed a 235 MMcf/d compression expansion of its onshore lateral system designed to deliver additional volumes to Southern Natural Gas at Venice, Louisiana, as well as a connection to the Louisiana intrastate pipeline grid with Bridgeline at Golden Meadow. Anticipated date of in-service is fourth quarter of 2009.
In addition to these market expansions, Columbia Gulf is also pursuing the following expansions of its supply portfolio:
- Delhi Supply Hub Interconnections. In 2006-07, approximately 3 Bcf/d of major new gas supply pipeline interconnections were completed in the vicinity of Columbia Gulf’s Delhi Compressor Station, providing access to supply from North Louisiana, East Texas and the Barnett Shale. Multiple interconnections projected to bring an additional 4 Bcf/d of new supply in the same vicinity are planned to be in-service between 2008 and 2010. These interconnections will provide access to LNG supply as well as the Mid-Continent basin and the developing Fayette Shale.
- Midwestern Interconnection. Columbia Gulf hasconstructed a 120 MMcf/d bi-directional interconnection with Midwestern Gas Transmission near Nashville, Tennessee. This interconnection provides direct access to Chicago and other Midwestern markets, as well as to Mid-continent and Rocky Mountain gas supplies.
- Pine Prairie Storage. Columbia Gulf has constructed a 600 MMcf/d interconnection with the 24 Bcf Pine Prairie storage facility in southern Louisiana.
